Faith Journeys

Sacramental Formation

As followers of Christ, we are called to take a personal faith journey that lasts until we draw our final breath. The staff at St. Pius X is committed to helping each individual on that journey, whether you were born into the Catholic faith or join somewhere along the way.

Confirmation now comes before First Communion:

By 2029, all parishes in the Diocese of Tulsa will confer Baptism, Confirmation, then the Eucharist. This order, called “restored order,” is the original, theological order of receiving sacraments. (For more information, please check out Bishop David Konderla’s 2024 pastoral letter, “Jesus is Lord,” available in English and Spanish.)

Therefore, children in 2nd grade will prepare for and celebrate First Reconciliation. Children in 3rd grade will prepare for and celebrate both Confirmation and First Holy Communion in the same Mass. Afterward, families continue to grow in faith together through ongoing, whole-family catechesis. Those in 4th through 12th grade will receive Confirmation very soon as we lower the Confirmation age to 3rd grade.

Please consider the graces from the Holy Spirit and do not delay your child’s Confirmation. To begin this journey, contact the Director of Evangelization, Daniel Shahwan at [email protected].

Becoming Catholic:

Welcome home. This journey leads to the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. These are the sacraments of initiation to become a Catholic. Those who are already baptized in another Christian tradition need not repeat their Baptism. Students who are catechumens (unbaptized) on this journey join their Catholic peers for faith formation with additional, appropriate preparation through Lent to receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Students who are candidates (baptized) will receive Confirmation and First Holy Communion at our scheduled Confirmation Masses.

Parents who are baptized in another Christian tradition inquiring about the Catholic faith are welcome to sign up for the Adult Confirmation Class (ACC). To begin this journey, contact Daniel Shahwan at [email protected].

If your child is baptized in another Christian tradition inquiring about the Catholic faith, they can receive formation with their Catholic peers. Baptized students in middle or high school have the option to either join their parents in ACC or join their peers. To begin this journey, contact Daniel Shahwan at [email protected].

If you are 18 or older and unbaptized, you’ll journey through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). To begin this journey, contact Daniel Shahwan at [email protected].

Children between the ages of 7 and 18 and unbaptized will journey through the Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC). Students in middle or high school have the option to join their parents in OCIA instead. To begin this journey, contact Daniel Shahwan at [email protected].
